On this, the Thursday after Ash Wednesday, the message is clear:
Luke 9:22-25: “Jesus said to his disciples:
‘The Son of Man must suffer greatly and be rejected
by the elders, the chief priests, and the scribes,
and be killed and on the third day be raised.’
Then he said to all,
‘If anyone wishes to come after me, he must deny himself
and take up his cross daily and follow me.
For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it,
but whoever loses his life for my sake will save it.
What profit is there for one to gain the whole world
yet lose or forfeit himself?’“

Ponder this today and oftentimes afterwards for a guide as to how well a disciple of Jesus you are.

How sad it is when someone “loses himself or herself” to alcoholism. I have a man who is working for me who is losing the battle to the bottle. It’s so difficult to be around him and watch. Please join me in prayer for this man.

Yes, I think he knows he has a problem… I asked him if he thought he would ever quit drinking and he said maybe and then said that “no alcoholic can help themselves” right?
He’s right,no alcoholic can help themselves. Which is why there’s AA. You can look up AA meetings in the Yellow Pages of the phone book. You’ll be connected to a local “hotline”and you can inquire as to the whereabouts of local meetings. If needed you can try Al-Anon, a 12 step support group for people who have a problem with someone else’s drinking.)
