Sober Catholic is on Telegram

I recently joined Telegram, a popular privacy- and security- conscious Instant Messaging platform. I joined it because ChurchPop had joined which I thought was interesting. It appears that users can create Public Channels through which they can broadcast messages to followers. I thought that this might be a useful way to publish blogposts, in addition to the Sober Catholic Facebook Page and Sober Catholic on Twitter account.

I had posted this to Facebook: “Hello, all. I am going to be trying out Telegram, an IM app that I think is well-regarded for privacy and security. I just downloaded it to my phone and created a “Public Channel” which can be used to broadcast messages to subscribers.

I’m thinking it might be complementary to this Facebook Page and if “something were to happen’ that made FB difficult or impossible to use, perhaps a replacement. (Don’t worry, I’m not leavinh Facebook. But there are concerns.)

Here’s the link to the Sober Catholic Telegram Channel, click on it to subscribe: Sober Catholic on Telegram.

There is no way to reply to ‘broadcasts’ as far as I can determine. So, there is no interaction with subscribers, but it is an additional means to read Sober Catholic posts wherever you’re at. Telegram does offer the ability to create chatrooms, which I did, and them soon after deleted, due to fears of becoming overrun by spammers and trolls. Until I learn more about these chatrooms, and the degree to which they can be moderated and whatnot, I won’t be creating one.

So, join me on Telegram, at least use it for a perhaps more convenient means to read my stuff!
